Books: Barend die Barbaar

Leon-Ben Lamprecht is a financial advisor and father of three who lives in Wellington. He freely admits that he is addicted to braaivleis and guitars. He obtained a BCom degree in 2006, a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning in 2017 and a Master’s degree in Journalism in 2021 – all from Stellenbosch University.

His first book, Wie Skrik Vir Wortel Wolf, resulted directly from the Covid-19 lockdown. Leon-Ben explains: “My children love books, but the libraries were closed so I had to make up a story for them.” His children liked the story so much that he decided to create a full manuscript, which he presented to Tafelberg Publishers. Following the publication of his first book, he was encouraged to write Barend die Barbaar, a picture and rhyme book. Leon-Ben admits: “I’m not crazy about rhymes – they are difficult to write, but I woke up one morning with the first stanza in my head and it flowed from there.” His third book will be released in 2023.

The books are available at any bookstore, and Leon-Ben recommends Bargain Books in Paarl. Barend die Barbaar is also available at https://afriforumuitgewers.co.za/.
