Celebrate our global Maties network

21 September 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 25 September 2021 @ 6:00 pm

  • « London to Brighton: Join Justice Edwin Cameron and Prof Wim
  • Celebrating the global Matie network »

It’s been a long time coming … that is, spending quality time in your company – and in person! It is our pleasure to invite you to reconnect and reminisce. And what better opportunity than Homecoming 2021! Please join fellow Maties in the United Kingdom (UK) in celebration of our global Maties network.

London Homecoming: Tuesday, 21 September 2021

You and your partner are invited to join Prof Wim de Villiers, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University, as well as Justice Edwin Cameron, Chancellor of Stellenbosch University for light snacks and drinks at our London Homecoming celebration at the BBar in London. Hear firsthand about all that is happening at your alma mater and meet our Chancellor.

Homecoming is an annual opportunity for you to connect with fellow Maties living and working in London and the greater UK. In addition, it provides a unique opportunity to form and strengthen new and existing networks in both friendship and professional development.

Date: Tuesday, 21 September 2021
Time: 19:00
Venue: The Jubilee Suite at the Bbar, 43 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 0PP
Dress Code: Smart casual
Cost: £10 per person (Donation to #Move4Food)

As has become the tradition of the London Homecoming, this event is an opportunity for Maties to support the more vulnerable among our Matie student community. Our #Move4Food campaign ensures that students who are facing food insecurity on our campuses can access the right support at the right time and not go hungry.
Attendance for this event is limited to 50 guests. Your donation of £10 per person to the #Move4Food campaign will afford you access. A ticket(s) will be issued to you on confirmation of your RSVP and donation.

London to Brighton Cycle Ride (L2B):
On Sunday, 19 September 2021, our Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor will take on the iconic 55-mile cycle ride from Clapham Common in South London to the seaside town of Brighton to raise funds to support academically strong but financially disadvantaged Matie students. They have set a target to raise of £20 000, with each competing to see who can raise their £10 000 first!

  • Prof Wim de Villiers wants to ask you something HERE.
  • Justice Edwin Cameron wants to ask you something HERE.

We are calling on you to support them by donating to the UK/EU Bursary Fund.

  • Support the Chancellor HERE.
  • Support the Vice-Chancellor HERE.

If you are cycling in the L2B for another charity, we would love for you to reach out and let the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor know that you are around, just to give that extra encouragement along the route.

Come Braai with Me: Saturday, 25 September 2021
Come and celebrate South Africa’s National Heritage Day with fellow Maties, doing what we love as South Africans – standing around a braai. Our braai date is set for Saturday, 25 September 2021. Are you up for a Matie braai?

In the style of the UK’s favourite group dining programme, Come Dine with Me, we invite you to respond to one of these two options:

HOST: I would love to have fellow Maties come to my house and join me for a braai.
GUEST: I would love to join other Maties in my area or close to me for a braai.

Please send your response to darrynh@sun.ac.za by Saturday, 31 August 2021.
