COVID-19 vaccines: Mandate or choice

19 October 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

  • « Russel Botman: Memorial Lecture
  • Alumni networking event »

Stellenbosch University’s Development and Alumni Relations Division invites you to an online talk titled COVID-19 vaccines: Mandate or choice. This discussion will focus on the legal and ethical aspects of COVID-19 vaccines and whether these vaccines should and may be made mandatory.

This is the second talk in a series of conversations with national and international leaders, titled the Matie Crest Talks. The aim of these leadership talks is to inspire, strengthen, guide and intrigue current and future leaders. Through the Maties Crest Talks we are creating a platform for leaders from different walks of life, different industries and various contexts to share their views on leadership exclusively with our Matie alumni.

The panel speakers will be as follows:
Justice Edwin Cameron: Chancellor of Stellenbosch University, and retired Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa
Prof Keymanthri Moodley: Director: Centre for Medical Ethics and Law, Stellenbosch University
Prof Thuli Madonsela: Law professor and Law Trust Chair in Social Justice at Stellenbosch University, and former Public Protector of South Africa
Mr Zackie Achmat: Co-director of NGO Ndifuna Ukwazi (Dare to Know), and co-founder of the Treatment Action Campaign
Prof Nicola Smit (facilitator): Dean: Faculty of Law, Stellenbosch University
