Spotlight on expat tax
26 October 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Development and Alumni Relations Division at Stellenbosch University invites our Maties in Europe and the United Kingdom to an exclusive online talk titled Spotlight on South African Expat Tax. Over the past 12 months there has been a lot of development on this topic and various amendments to legislation that could impact many of our alumni abroad. This session will look to unpack all these changes and how they will affect YOU. This talk will be presented by alumni, De Wet de Villiers and Bobby Wessels, from the tax consulting practice, AJM.
They will discuss the following topics:
- Who is considered a South African tax resident and how do you cease your South African tax residency.
- Expat tax, financial immigration and the changes proposed to the withdrawal of retirement annuities and the taxation thereof.
- Exchange control and how this relates to both South African and non-South African tax residents.
- Practical aspects pertaining to tax returns needs and how the cessation of tax residency can be communicated to SARS.
