Not far from our alma mater, the Breede River Alumni Hub, was launched in October 2020. A group of willing alumni saw the value and potential in bringing Maties from Tulbagh to McGregor together. We acknowledge that this picturesque valley is home to Maties working in a number of different industries with diverse interests and ambitions and hope to, as we collaborate, be a catalyst for a growing number of Maties to get involved.
This Hub aims to organise four flagship events per year and is willing to help facilitate other initiatives and ideas as Maties discover and rediscover collaborating opportunities. These could include social receptions, guest lectures, networking opportunities and fundraisers.
Sporting events, for example golf days, bowls business league, mountain biking and trail running are also on the priority list, as these will be excellent events to show that the alumni are present in the community. We aim to be visible in the community and hopefully inspire the pupils of the community to come and study at Maties.
The Hub covers a big region and therefore, the opportunities to connect are ample. The Hub is led by Tarina Nel.

We’re launching five new Hubs in 2021
Stellenbosch University has approximately 90 000 alumni staying in the Western Cape and we would like to develop active networks within seven identified regions — namely the Overberg, Breede River Valley, Garden Route, Cape Town City, Winelands and the West Coast.
We kicked off this project with the establishment of the Breede River Valley Alumni Hub at the end of 2020. The Breede River Valley Hub launch was a resounding success and the Hub has already established a programme for 2021, with an active volunteer committee driving networking in the region.
Our next stop is the launch of the Overberg Alumni Hub in early 2021. The other Hubs will follow later in 2021.
If you would like to get involved, please contact Ferdi van Dyk at dfvandyk@sun.ac.za.
