SUMMARY:Thuli Madonsela’s 300 km Pilgrimage of Hope: A Stride towards Inclusive Education
DESCRIPTION:Professor Thuli Madonsela\, Director of the Chair for Social Justice at Stellenbosch University (SU)\, is all set to embark on a journey that goes beyond a physical endeavour. She will walk the well-known Pilgrimage of Hope\, a 300 km route stretching from Stellenbosch to Cape Agulhas\, to raise funds for #Action4Inclusion. This SU initiative aims to secure the registration of all students by eliminating their historical debts.\nThe Pilgrimage of Hope\, a popular network of routes in the Western Cape\, is not just a long walk\, but a symbol of the epic struggle that many South African students face in their pursuit of education. The route traverses diverse landscapes and communities\, adding an extra layer of significance to Madonsela’s cause.\nThe marathon walk begins on the weekend of 19 and 20 August and will continue for 13 consecutive days in October. The journey starts at 08:00 at the Rhenish church on the Braak in Stellenbosch\, with Prof Thuli walking 15 km to Pniel on 20 August. On the following day\, the journey resumes at 08:00 at the Pniel Museum to conclude at the farm La Provence near Franschhoek after another 20 km trek. This experience is presented in association with Visit Stellenbosch and the Pilgrimage of Hope.\nWe invite supporters and enthusiasts to join Prof Thuli and a group of inspiring leaders and entrepreneurs at the launch of this ambitious project. If you are interested in participating\, you are welcome to do so on either day or both.\nThe participation fee is R600 per day\, which includes logistical support\, a hat\, snacks and a traditional roosterkoek for lunch. Also\, we provide return transfers to the starting point. DESCRIPTION:Prof Thuli Madonsela\, Chair in Social Justice at Stellenbosch University’s (SU) Faculty of Law\,\, the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Development and Alumni Relations Division (DAR)\, in partnership with Visit Stellenbosch\, warmly invite you to the #Action4Inclusion Social Justice Walk taking place on Thursday\, 16 June 2022 from 08h30 to 14h00.  \n  \nThe walk is part of ongoing fundraising efforts to end student debt and free the potential of students so that they can participate meaningfully in the development of our country. #Action4Inclusion is one of the many initiatives that fall under the University’s Annual Fund\, Bridge the Gap\, which enables the community\, staff\, alumni\, parents and friends to support our students and close the gap between talent and financial need. \n  \nThe #Action4Inclusion Social Justice Walk will be attended by SU Rector and Vice-Chancellor\, Prof Wim De Villiers\, Executive Mayor of Cape Town Geordin Hill-Lewis\, and Municipal Manager of the Stellenbosch Municipality\, Geraldine Mettler.  \n  \nThe route of 16km will start at the Rhenish church on Die Braak and up the old Helshoogte Pass\, ending in Pniël where Professor Madonsela will deliver a keynote address.  \n  \nAlthough this is a fundraising event for the #Action4Inclusion campaign\, it is also an opportunity to embrace social justice against the backdrop of our country’s troubled history.
