For just 48 hours, the Stellenbosch University community could change the world of some of our fellow Matie students. Your gifts could change the lives of students and make a difference for the causes you are passionate about. Donate to any one element of the Bridge the Gap campaign that resonates with you or to towards the umbrella Bridge the Gap annual fund. Create opportunities by changing a life. Giving Day 2021, within the Covid-19 limitations, takes the form of various and diverse arm’s length games/activities such as soccer and tennis, and then there’s a megamovie marathon. The Giving Day activities are usually across 24 hours – but this year they’re spread out to accommodate social distancing, curfews, and vax uptake.
Residences/PSO’s will be asked to decorate the trees on Victoria Street between Dagbreek and Irene.
Each residence/PSO will be allocated a tree in which there will be a donation box for residences/PSO’s to donate non-perishable foods and toiletries (including sanitary towels).
There is a prize for the best-looking tree so GO CRAZY, make a statement, but be mindful!
You can register or sign up for the activities by completing a quick registration form for either Soccer or Tennis on MS forms. You can donate any amount through GivenGain or Snapscan or by EFT.

Mixed gender teams start with a bonus point.
How many points you score counts, of course!
How many items have your res or PSO contributed to #EndPeriodPoverty, #Move4Food and/or the Tygerberg Pantry Project?
How many of your relevant and appropriate socials posts have tagged #BridgetheGap_SU?
Then we ALL win!
Tennis
Our speed tennis tournament consists of multiple games of 20-minutes with 10-minute intervals.
These will take place at Dagbreek Courts from the morning of Giving Day on the 7th of October.
The winners of the matches will play against each other the next day, Friday 8th of October. The games are doubles matches in which SU residences/PSO are pitted against each other and a singles match where residences/PSO will play against each other.
The aim is to have the HK of residences and PSO (or their representatives) playing against each other during the morning and afternoon programme, AND to have their social media teams posting targeted and relevant posts endorsing Bridge the Gap (BtG) on BtG social media AND your own residence and PSO’s socials.
Each residence/PSO is required to register 3 players in the team – a doubles pair and a singles player.

End Goal
The purpose of the Giving Day is for the cohesion of the communities to highlight, donate, and give back towards one cause. It is pivotal that the annual fund gains traction, exposure, and awareness to succeed.
Giving Day is the first platform and event to create awareness and exposure of the causes within the annual fund. This event sets the tone for the following nine months of events, activities, and energy on behalf of Bridge the Gap annual fund. This will also give an opportunity for the different communities to give towards #EndPeriodPoverty and #Move4Food which are two of the eight campaigns under the Bridge the Gap campaign.
