#YAP: The Stellenbosch University Young Alumni Programme (YAP)
We know the importance of networking in the development of a young graduate’s career path. Afterall, “your network is your net worth”. Stellenbosch University has consistently produced phenomenal graduates who are successful and influential in various industries across the globe. With such a rich influential network we want to create opportunities that lead to you having your first job, your second job, and entrepreneurial growth.
YAP, launched in August 2021, is designed to connect graduates with one another and to establish a perennial relationship between graduates and their alma mater, Stellenbosch University. Through networking opportunities, and career development programmes graduates are supported and connected to each other and influential alumni.

One of the prestigious YAP events is our World of Work Week, aimed at informing postgraduate students, and young graduates in their first job, about challenges in the workplace and challenging their ideas around the world of work. While the University hosts a conventional career fair annually, we have yet to create a platform for engagement with experts and industry pioneers. The World of Work Week is a “town-hall” styled career information event where young alumni can ask questions, share opinions, and challenge the current trajectory of the business world.
World of Work Week – Young Professionals Edition

Now that you’ve entered the world of work, are you looking for ways to advance your career? In the second edition of the World of Work Week, we will focus on topics relevant to young working professionals.
How-To Series
When you first left university, didn’t you wish for a repository where you could find all the “Adulting 101” information? We have created just the platform for that! Our How-To Series will consist of many episodes on any and all topics related to being a young working adult or postgraduate student. On the last Thursday of every second month, an alumnus will share tips and tricks on how to grow professionally, financially, and personally
Young Alumni Advisory Board
To ensure that programmes and events in all regions are conducted in the best interest of our young alumni constituency, a Young Alumni Advisory board will be established.
The Young Alumni Advisory board exists for the following purposes:
- To serve and support the young alumni constituency by ensuring all programmes are carried out.
- To foster and sustain the active involvement of young alumni.
- To review and suggest a future developmental YAP programme.
- To establish a volunteer committee which will oversee carrying out regional Hub events.
- Each member will have the capacity to recommend specific programmes and support needed for their region.
Interested in being part of the advisory board? Get in touch with Ferdi van Dyk at dfvandyk@sun.ac.za for more information on YAP
Young Alumni Networks
Wherever you may be in the world, we have created networking opportunities through regional hubs and chapters. As a young alum you can join a hub network in your region and attend career networking events at your leisure.
