#Action4Inclusion Social Justice Walk – 16 June 2022

Stellenbosch University is intensifying efforts to end student debt. The Law Trust Chair in Social Justice, the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Division Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), in partnership with Visit Stellenbosch, warmly invite you to the #Action4Inclusion Social Justice Walk taking place on 16 June 2022.

The walk is part of the ongoing fundraising efforts to end student debt and free the potential of students so that they can participate meaningfully in the development of our country. #Action4Inclusion is one of the many initiatives that fall under Stellenbosch University’s annual fund, Bridge the Gap, which enables the community, staff, alumni, parents and friends to support our students and close the gap between talent and financial need – something we all care about.

Although this is a fundraising event for the #Action4Inclusion campaign, it is also an opportunity to embrace social justice against the backdrop of our country’s troubled history. The event also aims to acknowledge past injustices and seeks to promote renewed hope, inspiration and collaboration between diverse stakeholders.

The #Action4Inclusion Social Justice Walk will be attended by colleagues, alumni, friends and captains of industry and we believe that it offers a unique opportunity for reigniting interest in the Dwarsrivier Valley, an undeveloped area of rich living history, cultural charm and spectacular natural beauty in the Stellenbosch region. The route of 16 km currently exists as a tourist attraction called the Journey of Hope and Healing, with the objective of creating an environment wherein all of the communities in Stellenbosch can enjoy the immense benefits of our tourism potential. The route will take us from Stellenbosch via the old Helshoogte Pass to Pniël, and the day will be concluded by an encouraging keynote address from Professor Madonsela.

Some of the proceeds will go towards refreshments during the walk, although the majority of the proceeds will be donated to the #Action4Inclusion cause.
