Books: Die Spore van Gert Saggiestrap

Marco Botha is a journalist, writer, TV rugby commentator and communication manager – a storyteller in various media. He obtained the degrees BA (Sport Science) and BPhil (Journalism) at Stellenbosch University in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

Die Spore van Gert Saggiestrap originated from a simple interest in the Ju/’hoansi people from Namibia. Although he initially viewed the Boesmans through rose-tinted lenses, his research uncovered a history and current reality of oppression, poverty, and dehumanisation.

“The journalist in me wanted to describe the true state of affairs and I decided to write a work of fiction to make the story more accessible to a broader audience. A Boesman family from Epukiro assisted me with the research and writing process and the book wouldn’t have been possible without the involvement of the /Ui family. The works of Willemien le Roux, James Susman and Rob Gordon were also invaluable. Rob is a former Matie and emeritus professor in Anthropology at the University of Vermont in the USA.”

Die Spore van Gert Saggiestrap is available in all reputable bookstores.
