This invitation is for, but not exclusive to, Stellenbosch University (SU) alumni in the Breede Valley – from Tulbagh to Bonnievale, and it’s an invitation to join, help to develop and participate in the development our new alumni hub.
We know that SU values the contribution that we as alumni make to society and we really appreciate the tools, friendships, and life skills that Maties provided all of us with. The Breede Valley SU alumni hub has been established from this vantage point. The hub plans to play a facilitating role in valuing, connecting, supporting and promoting collaboration among alumni regardless of where an alumnus finds him-/herself on his/her personal and career journey.
The aim is to establish a core team consisting of (but not limited to) a convenor, hub communication, fundraising, multigenerational representatives, an SU alumni wine route representative, a women alumni (SWAN) representative, an events portfolio and other portfolios that the team deems necessary to make interaction, topics of discussion, engagement and collaborative efforts relevant to the Breede Valley area.
Your insight, eagerness to find opportunities, your knowledge of the area and local industries will all be valuable in the quest to establish the hub. If you are keen to help in creating communities where Maties can connect with each other again and would like to become part of the core team, please email Tarina Nel at tarinanel@gmail.com by Wednesday, 01 July 2020.
Once the team is established, a festive meet-and-greet event or multiple smaller ones (COVID-19 adapted) will follow later in 2020.
Joining the network does not only promise to serve your career, it also promises to remind you of ‘great times lived’, will help you to pick up longlost connections and provide the opportunity to be inspired by and learn from fellow Maties. This holds the potential to create opportunities for Maties across generations.
You will learn a lot more about me, but for now see me as a proud Matie Alumna. I’m really keen to get involved – together with you. Let’s get this hub going!
Always a Matie, Altyd ‘n Matie, Njalo yi Matie!
