Stellenbosch University (SU) nurtures the dreams of students to obtain a world-class degree and to enter the world of work with confidence. But for many of our students, the path to academic success is bumpy and they need a helping hand to overcome many hurdles. As we build a strong and vibrant alumni network, our goal is to foster a culture of “making a difference” that will positively impact the lives of current and future Maties.
Maties like Marilet Daniel is doing just that! On Sunday 24 September, she will participate in the Berlin Marathon – not only to reach her personal goals but also to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the University’s #Move4Food campaign that aims to combat food insecurity among students at SU.
A message from Marilet:
“I am Marilet, 38 years old, and a CA in Amsterdam, which means I spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer. I have set myself a physical goal – complete a marathon! I’m not a natural athlete, but wanted to see what my body could do, instead of what it looked like. The ‘clarity of mind’ that comes with the run was a bonus. I was super lucky to get a place in the Berlin Marathon and so far I’m really enjoying it. “No draf too tough” is my husband’s motto which has now become mine too. My target is to raise €500.”
Did you know? A donation of €5 can provide a student with 5 meals. By supporting Marilet’s initiative, you will be making a difference. You can support her and our students by donating on her GivenGain page until Friday 13 October 2023.
