A Spring Piano Concert
30 March 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Stellenbosch University (SU) is proud to present our Spring Piano Concert in March 2022. This concert is in aid of alleviating outstanding student debt among the members of our Stellenbosch University Choir. Proceeds from this concert will also cover the cost for one student to attend the ArtePiano International Music Festival.
Join fellow alumnus Niel du Preez as he masterfully presents a programme of music from the Baroque era, through to the late Romantic period. Experience the serene, the drama and the tranquility with a Bach Choral transcription, Beethoven’s Tempest Sonata and Chopin’s Barcarolle (Boat Song). The concert will conclude with Listz’s Vallée d’ Obermann.
The Stellenbosch University Choir is comprised of students from various academic backgrounds. It is the oldest and most celebrated choir in South Africa, founded in 1936. Currently the choir is ranked number one on the Interkultur World Ranking List of the top 1000 international choirs.
Choir members are expected to cover their own costs. However, various aspects which have impacted on the South African economy have made it extremely difficult for the students to not only cover their costs for choir tours, but also their academic costs.
A recent study at Stellenbosch University indicated that students who are graduating are completing their studies with a debt of R30 000 on average.
This spring concert is an opportunity for fellow Maties and friends of the University to help alleviate the stress of outstanding fees. 50% of the ticket sales will go towards student debt and 50% will go towards paying the costs for a student to attend the ArtePiano International Music Festival.
Let us come together to support our fantastic choir!
