As part of the on-going efforts to address student debt, Prof Thuli Madonsela and Stellenbosch University will host a fundraiser comedy night on 22 October 2021. The comedy night is in aid of the #Action4Inclusion Stellenbosch University campaign, aimed at addressing student debt. Award-winning stand-up comedian, Stuart Taylor, has thrown his weight behind the campaign and will be sponsoring his time and wit!
Stuart described getting involved with the #Action4Inclusion initiative as an “honour” and hopes that his contribution “aids in getting a student the much-needed hand up”. He added that “one of the hardest things in this world is being excluded from reaching your potential, not because you didn’t put in enough effort, but because of circumstances beyond your control”.
Madonsela has expressed a heartfelt “thank you to colleagues, alumni, members of the public, companies, and captains of industry for their generous contributions and in helping us shape a brighter tomorrow!”
Dr Ronel Retief, Registrar at Stellenbosch University, highlighted the importance of addressing student debt by saying, “Addressing student debt is crucial, on the one hand, to facilitate continued access to higher education (or not excluding academically deserving students on financial grounds) and on the other hand, to contribute to the financial sustainability of the higher education institution itself”.
