Invitation: Women in Law

11 August 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

  • « Maties Rugby: Morné and the British Lions
  • SWAN: In conversation with Minister Naledi Pandor »

The Faculty of Law celebrates the role of women in the legal profession and in our society at large. In this regard, the Juridical Society (JV/S) and the Stellenbosch Women Alumnae Network (SWAN) extend an invitation to you to join the Women in Law event on 11 August in recognition of National Women’s Day to reflect and celebrate the journey of women in our profession.

Since 2014, the JV/S has hosted a number of esteemed speakers at this event and Prof Thuli Madonsela graced the inaugural Women’s Month Breakfast. SWAN was formed by the Development and Alumni Relations Division of Stellenbosch University (SU) in 2020 and aims to bring together women through mentorship programmes, leadership training, round-table discussions and many more to enable networking among diverse groups of women in a variety of industries.

This year the faculty is proud to host alumna Ms Ulrike Naumann as the 2021 guest speaker. Ms Naumann is a trailblazer in many respects and represents the great strides that so many of our alumnae have made and continue to make in our profession.

Biography of Ulrike Naumann:
Ulrike Naumann is a Partner at pan-African law firm Bowmans and heads up their finance practice. Ulrike is an alumna of SU and was awarded both a Bachelor of Commerce and an LLB degree from the University cum laude. She continued her studies abroad, amongst others, by reading towards a Bachelor of Civil Law at Oxford University, before returning to South Africa to pursue a career in law. Ulrike is a member of the Partnership Board of Bowmans and Vice-Chair of the Banking Law Committee of the International Bar Association. She is passionate about the role of women in the corporate world and has managed to navigate the complex world of law and finance through her work. She has been recognised as one of the leading Women Lawyers in Finance by the International Financial Law Review, amongst other recognitions. Outside of work, Ulrike enjoys travelling, reading, running, cold water swimming and loves good food and wine.
