Maties Come Wine with Me

30 October 2020 @ 9:45 pm - 11:30 pm

  • « Come wine with us in Germany
  • In conversation with Prof Stan »

We are excited to invite you to join the Maties Wine Club: United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland.

This is a free membership society for Stellenbosch University (SU) alumni living in the UK and Ireland, which gives you exclusive access to various winemakers from around Stellenbosch, the Boland and South Africa at bespoke virtual wine tasting evenings.

The UK and Ireland Maties Wine Club will be linked to our Stellenbosch-based Maties Wine Club, housed at our new Alumni Welcoming Centre at Die Stal.

These virtual wine-tasting events will take place on a Friday evening, once every quarter, and will commence in late October 2020. Members will have the opportunity to request specific content for future hosted evenings and interact with the winemakers at each event.

We realise that you receive a large volume of emails from various organisations, as well as personal and work emails. To ensure your invitation to these virtual wine tasting events, we accordingly request that you please register to be part of the invitation list. Apart from one reminder, we won’t be sending these invites to the wider alumni mailing list in the UK and Ireland in future.

As Maties and the SU, our links to the SA wine industry go back more than 100 years. Training in viticulture and oenology was offered as early as the 1880s at the former Stellenbosch Gymnasium (one of our names before becoming a university). Formal teaching in the Department of Viticulture and Oenology of the Faculty of Agriculture (now Faculty of AgriSciences) was started by Professor AI Perold, who is widely regarded as the father of Pinotage.

To be part of Maties Wine Club: UK and Ireland, please send the following to me at darrynh@sun.ac.za:

1. The first line of your address and your postal code (please be sure to indicate if you are in the UK or Ireland)
2. Your LinkedIn Profile url – if you have one

Date: Friday, 30 October 2020
Time: 20:45 -22:30  (UTC+1)
Venue: Online
Where: A link to the event will be sent on receipt of your email.

Please note that owing to the logistics of event management, membership is restricted to Maties in the UK and Ireland.

We look forward to inviting you to our first event to be held on Friday, 30 October 2020.

Invites will be sent out in the first week of October.
