The Development and Alumni Relations Division at Stellenbosch University (SU) invites our Maties in Europe to an exclusive online talk titled South African Expat Tax: Setting the record straight with Monique Malan, a lecturer in taxation at SU’s School of Accountancy.
Amongst South Africans abroad, “expat tax” has become a buzz term as a result of the amendment to art 10(1)(o)(ii) of the South African Income Tax Act No. 58 of 1962, which provides an exemption for remuneration earned abroad. The amendment came into effect on 1 March 2020, yet misinformation and misunderstandings abound.
Monique will discuss the fundamental principles governing the taxation of South Africans abroad before setting out the impact of the most pertinent current South African tax legislative provisions on these individuals.
