Welcoming of newcomers
Thursday, 3 February
We will welcome the newcomers to Matieland at our annual Dream Launch ceremony. Each first-year student will receive a Maties t-shirt with their first-year number printed on the front. This number then represents the first day as a Matie and hopefully for that group to return in 10 years’ time for their 10-year reunion. As part of the 2022 Dream Walk, we are inviting the first-year groups of 2012, 2002, 1992, 1982 and 1972 to join the 2022 newcomers on this ceremonial walk down Victoria Street.
We will also welcome back Matie parents who are bringing their children to Matieland. Join us at the Alumni Clubhouse after the Welcoming ceremony at the Danie Craven Stadium. Once a Matie, always a Matie.

Vensters
Friday, 11 February
The annual Vensters event, where new students entertain audiences with their very own original performances, is always a runaway success and a highlight on the Maties calendar. Apart from entertaining audiences, the performances by new students from SU residences and PSOs also bring social awareness and promote their social impact projects. More than 15 000 tickets are sold and more than 25 000 people attend the event on the night. The streets, trees and stalls are draped in fairy lights, and the air is filled with the delicious smell of food from local vendors. The Vensters Street Festival in Victoria Street offers Stellenbosch community members an opportunity to run a market stall. This is part of the goal of making Vensters more family-friendly and community-orientated.

Simonsberg Met
Friday, 18 February
The Simonsberg Metropolitan plays an integral role in the unique identity that is Simonsberg. The Met, as it is more commonly known, is one of the biggest student organised events and is a huge highlight on campus every year. We invite our alumni to join in at the “Turf Club” and to see what the newcomers (as well as their horses) have in store for us at the 60th annual Simonsberg Met.
